The Perfect Position to Sleep through Contractions

Labor Tips

By: Keya Nkonoki / August 14, 2015

As a doula, I often use this position with clients who are trying to sleep through contractions, but still want to progress labor.

Happy Friday!

In last Sunday’s yoga class we practiced the exaggerated Sims position during our restorative svasana.  The Sims position, named after the gynecologist James Marion Sims, is often used during the active phase of labor to help baby get into optimal position.  As a doula, I often use this position with clients who are trying to sleep through contractions, but still want to progress labor.  Read this great article written by a doula on the benefit of using Sims position along with other great positions for labor.  Another fantastic resource for optimal positioning that can be utilized in the 3rd trimester is Spinning Babies.  We will practice many of these positions along with couples yoga, breathing and comfort measures for birth in my upcoming monthly series:  Positively Pregnancy Playshop for Partners.

This month’s focus will be on use of the REBOZO SCARF!  SAVE THE DATES:  Sunday August 30th 2:30-5pm AND Saturday, September 26th 2:30-5pm @ MOMS AT OM STUDIO.  Cost is only $95.00 per couple!  Space is limited to only 6 couples and is filling fast!  Please email me if you would like to sign up for one or both sessions along with your due date.

** Thanks to Kristi Fiore, a pregnancy yoga student in my classes @ MOMS AT OM Studio for being such a beautiful model of this position!

Hope to see you on your mat soon! 🙂
